Tahitian Coral Reefs become home to British retailers

A coral reef on the shores of the tropical island of Mo’orea, sister island to Tahiti in the South Pacific, is now home to British retailers NEXT, John Bell & Croyden, OOOOO, Wolf & Badger, and Voisins, in reef form.

THE GRUFF STUFF has adopted newly planted reef fragments - transplanted cuttings placed onto degraded reef areas to attract new marine life, planted by the Coral Gardeners - in honour of five British retailers who have supported this premium, vegan skincare brand on its journey from start-up to accomplished award winner.

Coral reefs adopted in names of NEXT, OOOOO, John Bell & Croyden, Voisins, Wolf & Badger

Founder David Sparkes said: “The beauty industry has been incredibly welcoming and I wanted to thank everyone who has supported us on our journey. I couldn’t think of a better way than by giving back to the ocean, to help the coral reefs that support life under the sea.”

“Across our industry, every single product features an element of nature, whether that’s a plant extract or a drop of water. It’s important that we focus on ways to work with nature rather than stripping it bare to make our products. Beauty is not only about looking good; it should make you feel good too.”

THE GRUFF STUFF has enjoyed an incredible end to its launch year, becoming the most recognised brand at October’s Pure Beauty Awards and following this up by being highly commended by the industry’s elite at the Copra Awards.

The brand first adopted a cluster of coral fragments following October’s success, and this total has now grown to 17. All are in the names of those behind the brand - colleagues, friends and business partners.

“When I found out about the work of these underwater gardeners, I knew that I wanted to help plant more coral, even if it is from the urban sprawl of Manchester rather than the crystal waters of French Polynesia!” said Sparkes. “Conservation is one of our core values and we’re constantly focusing on how we can be more mindful of the natural world.”

The GPS coordinates of the coral reef fragments are: -17.47693, -149.80952. (Cook’s Bay, Mo’orea).
